About Hope for Life Katanga:

Hope for Life Katanga is Community Based Organisation (CBO) based in Katanga, Kampala and a registered charity in the UK (Charity No. 1153897).

Our primary mission is to bring hope to vulnerable families in Katanga. We aim to prevent or relieve poverty in Uganda by providing or assisting in the provision of education, training, healthcare projects, sanitation and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self sufficient.This is largely achieved through making considerable improvements in the quality of education enjoyed by children while improving the ability of their families to secure sustainable livelihoods.

Job Summary:

The Livelihoods Officer is responsible for the implementation of a high quality livelihood program for the families in Katanga area.

The job-holder is expected to initiate and exhibit a culture of innovation and creativity in effecting his roles in the program and must demonstrate a high degree of trust.

Additionally, the job-holder will be expected to continually observe the day-to-day effectiveness of program delivery, noting and reporting any areas where improvements are possible and making sure improvements are made.

S/he will support the planning and design processes within the livelihood program at Hope for Life Katanga.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The job holder should possess a bachelor’s degree in preferably Business, Social Work, or Education from a recognized university with at least three years demonstrated experience in implementing development projects (SMEs, income generating activities, livelihood activities) in an NGO.

  • Good understanding of the livelihoods development sector especially attributes of production, value addition, marketing and resilience to shocks and stresses.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of income generating activities, development training and micro enterprise creation

  • Experience working in communities

  • Proactive thinker

  • Awareness of child protection issues

  • Knowledge of the local language is an advantage

  • A person of high integrity that will model Hope for Life’s core values

  • Ability to develop business plans for families
