We are looking for new trustees to join us at an exciting point of the charity’s journey. Could this be you?
We are looking for HOPE-filled trustees looking to make a tangible difference in the lives of hundreds of families in Uganda. Can you join us supporting in one of the following roles? Supporter Relations, Fundraising, Monitoring & Evaluation, and Capacity Building. Keep scrolling to read more about each role.
You will help to ensure a strong UK governance function while working alongside our Uganda directors and staff to support the development of our local delivery of programmes that enable families living in conditions of poverty to become self reliant.

Trustee
As a trustee your primary responsibilities are to:
Ensure the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
Comply with the charity’s governing document and the law
Act in the charity’s best interest
Manage your charities resources responsibly
Act with reasonable care and skill
Ensure your charity is accountable
We would expect that trustees would have an understanding or experience of working in a similar organisation, or in similar settings.
It would be desirable that you have an understanding or experience of the challenges of operating in Uganda, or specifically providing education, vocational training, healthcare, or other community services.

Interview | Early October
Start date | Oct 24 or Jan 25
Term | 3 years, with potential to extend
Due Diligence | References and a basic DBS will be required to become a trustee. We will follow up with these after a successful interview process.
SUPPORTER RELATIONS
Purpose | To keep our supporters updated on the impact of their generous support
(We don’t expect you will know everything related to this role. We can provide you coaching and training in any areas you feel less confident in.)
Responsibilities
Ensure regular and sustainable communication with existing supporters.
Thank new donors and include in regular communications
Ensure website and other relevant public channels are updated to inform and inspire existing supporters.
Support and encourage Uganda first communication, highlighting beneficiaries, staff and directors based in Uganda.
Be conscious of ethical and responsible storytelling and communications.
Support Uganda directors and staff networking directly with UK (and global) supporters.
9 hours of trustee meetings / year
Desirable
Previous experience of engaging audiences on digital channels and other avenues.
The ability to represent charity and our values in written and spoken formats.
Cultural Sensitivity
Knowledge or experience of the challenges of operating in Uganda, or specifically providing education, vocational training, healthcare or other community services.

UK Monitoring & Evaluation
MONITORING & EVALUATION
Purpose | To collect and share the impact of our work.
(We don’t expect you will know everything related to this role. We can provide you coaching and training in any areas you feel less confident in.)
Responsibilities
Support the development and implementation of a Monitoring & Evaluation Framework.
Ensure results are relevant and accessible to inform strategic development and programme management.
Ensure data and evaluations are consolidated, coherent, and in an understandable and usable form for use in public communications and internal organisation evaluation.
9 hours of trustee meetings / year
Support Supporter Relations function
Desirable
Previous experience of collecting relevant data and presenting the findings into compelling narratives.

UK Supporter Relations & Communications
FUNDRAISING
Purpose | To connect people and organisations who want to make a difference with our work.
(We don’t expect you will know everything related to this role. We can provide you coaching and training in any areas you feel less confident in.)
Responsibilities
Help to generate donations for the delivery of our programmes in Uganda, which may include, researching and writing funding applications, delivering talks, hosting online events, encouraging individual fundraising efforts.
Ensure website and other relevant public channels are updated to attract new audiences and attract new support.
Support and encourage Uganda first communication, highlighting beneficiaries, staff and directors based in Uganda.
Be conscious of ethical and responsible storytelling and communications.
Support Uganda directors and staff networking directly with UK (and global) supporters.

Desirable
Understanding or previous experience of fundraising for a community organisation or charity
Ability to write compelling funding applications to win new funding and retain existing funding from individuals, churches, businesses, trusts and foundations etc.
The ability to represent charity and our values in written and spoken formats.

UK Capacity Building
CAPACITY BUILDING
Purpose | Keep our staff, volunteers and trustees up to date with the information and training we need to deliver this work.
(We don’t expect you will know everything related to this role. We can provide you coaching and training in any areas you feel less confident in.)
Responsibilities
Ensure there is sufficient human resource for our UK board of trustees and programme delivery in Uganda, including seeking training and development opportunities and related funding, and facilitating voluntary support where appropriate.
Ensure trustees and volunteers understand their responsibilities and provide refresher training on relevant responsibilities.
Support the development of UG policies and procedures, ensuring they are fit for purpose.
Oversee the development and maintenance of relevant UK policies and procedures.

Support Fundraising function
Desirable
Understanding or previous experience of supporting volunteers or staff for a community organisation, charity, or business.
Ability to provide relevant training and upskilling in core areas inc. Trustee responsibilities, policies and procedures, best practice, wellbeing
