EMPOWERED JOURNEY OF JUSTINE
Opportunity unveils one’s potential is the statement that best describes the transformed life of a 23-year-old young lady Justine who found a safe haven with Hope For Life Katanga.
Justine moved to Katanga from Masaka one of the districts in Uganda to seek for work, after having dropped out of school due to financial constraints as her father who is a peasant farmer was a low-income earner. When she heard about the Girl Care program under she requested for an opportunity to be supported under the program so that she can acquire a skill. She spent a full year at our project as part of the procedure before we send any of the girls we support into formal school we spend with them that period.
She later joined YMCA comprehensive institute in 2018 under the vocational training sponsorship program and completed training in 2020 attaining a certificate in hairdressing and cosmetology.
After training, Justine worked with various salons and after a while, she felt confident enough to start up her own salon business using the money she had been saving. She is currently managing her own salon business, though the business is operating on a small scale, she has bigger plans of growing her business and opening up other outlets in the near future.
She is able to rent a house for herself, fully support her young sister whom she lives with and also pays her school tuition. Justine sends monthly financial assistance to her father to help him take care of the other six siblings.
Justine has not only transformed her life, but she also employs two other young ladies in her salon whose lives have also been improved because of the opportunity to earn a living.
She is very thankful for the opportunity Hope For Life gave her through their program.
