Kick-start a Career

People live in poverty not because they are lazy but because they lack the same opportunities that we’ve had to make a living.

Over the past five years, I've had the opportunity to chat with many individuals in Uganda about their hopes and dreams; their desires to see their children receiving an education or getting a good job when they are older, listening to stories about death and illness all because of relatively inexpensive medication and treatment, and even parents sharing with me their desire to gain a new skill, or simply having the opportunity to boost their income.

If there is something that these parents certainly don't lack then it is definitely their desire to improve their standard of living and provide a better future for their family.

Unfortunately, desire can only take you so far; desire without access to opportunities doesn't improve life circumstance.

Over the same five years I've had access to many opportunities that I daily try not to take for granted; I am currently studying towards a degree, I have been able to pick up numerous jobs when I've needed them, I have access to healthcare without the worry of increasing bills, and also even had the opportunity for luxuries including travel to many countries around the world.

Kick-start a Career is our way of helping to provide parents in Uganda with access to opportunities that will change the course of their life.

The three opportunities we are focusing on over the coming year are;

  1. We want to renovate an existing building that we own in Katanga, to create a space for the entrepreneurs that will be graduating our tailoring and hairdressing classes this December. This provision seeks to benefit the 15 individuals graduating this December and we have the required funds to see this happen from January.
  2. We are going to invest more funds into sending individuals into accredited vocational training colleges. The funding we currently have will provide four individuals with an opportunity for vocational training starting January but our aim is to see 10 individuals start vocational training in 2017, so we are currently looking for supporters who will be able to provide an Ugandan's training fees for £30/month.
  3. We are going to provide Income Generating Grants to support individuals that have an already established business but require extra capital or equipment to see their business flourish and earn enough income to sustainably support their family. We currently looking to increase the amount of money available to give as grants to our beneficiaries in 2017.

So, whether it be access to vocational training, an Income Generating Grant, or even a entrepreneurial space for individuals to run their business from, we would love for you to join us in helping to kick start as many careers as possible.
